Surrender A Dog

Before You Begin

This form takes approximately 30–45 minutes to complete. You will be asked to upload photos of your dog and any available medical records. If possible, please gather these files before starting, as uploading them while you fill out the form is preferred. If you don’t have the records available now, we will request them when we reach out to you.

We know this application is lengthy, but the details you provide help us fully understand your dog’s needs so we can do our best to help both you and your dog.

Considering relinquishing a beloved dog is a difficult decision. Many circumstances can lead to this choice, and we are here to offer support. We appreciate you reaching out to us.

Life changes, such as moving, the loss of a loved one, divorce, and health challenges, among many other reasons, can sometimes make rehoming a pet necessary. Whatever the reason this link provides a few things to consider if you are still deciding and unsure about parting ways. Rest assured, we don’t judge your situation; our goal is to assist you and your dog.

Rocky Mountain Dachshund Rescue (RMDR) places dogs in caring foster homes and ensures they receive appropriate veterinary care. When ready, each dog is carefully matched with a suitable forever family. While we strive to make the transition as smooth as possible, placement may take time due to foster availability and the number of dogs currently in our care. We prioritize finding the right match for both the dog and the foster family.

RMDR is a 100% volunteer-run organization. Our volunteers balance rescue responsibilities alongside their personal and professional lives. While we do our best to respond as quickly as possible, most calls and messages are returned within 48 hours. We truly appreciate your patience and understanding.

Please answer your phone after submitting this application. If you receive a call or text from an unfamiliar number, it is likely one of our intake volunteers attempting to reach you. Prompt responses from you help move the surrender process forward.

If your dachshund is accepted into our rescue, full ownership of the dog will be transferred to Rocky Mountain Dachshund Rescue. This includes relinquishing all rights to the dog and understanding that there will be no future updates or contact with the foster family or adopters.

Please note that once a dog is surrendered to RMDR, the decision is final, and the dog cannot be returned. Thank you for your understanding and for helping us provide the best possible care for every dachshund with RMDR.
