The Truth About Puppy Mills in Utah & Colorado

At Rocky Mountain Dachshund Rescue (RMDR), we believe every dog deserves a safe, loving home. Unfortunately, thousands of dogs are still suffering in cruel breeding operations known as puppy mills. These facilities prioritize profit over animal welfare, often keeping dogs in overcrowded cages without proper veterinary care, exercise, or socialization.

Many people unknowingly support puppy mills when they purchase puppies from pet stores or online listings. Even if the store claims their puppies come from “licensed breeders” or “family breeders,” the reality is very different. Nearly all puppies sold in pet stores come from large-scale commercial breeders, not reputable, responsible homes.

Puppy Mills in Utah & Colorado

Thanks to the research of Bailing Out Benji, we know that Utah and Colorado are not immune to puppy mill operations. Dogs bred in these mills are transported across state lines and sold in pet stores, fueling the cycle of cruelty.

Utah Pet Stores Selling Puppy Mill Puppies

If you live in Utah, please do not shop at the following stores, as they have been linked to puppy mill suppliers:

  • The Puppy Store – 576 North Mill Road, C107, Vineyard, UT 84059
  • The Puppy Store – 7211 Plaza Center Drive, #160, West Jordan, UT 84084
  • Cedar Pet Supply – 250 Red Cliffs Drive, Space 8, St. George, UT 84790
  • The Puppy House – 875 W Red Cliffs Drive, #7, Washington, UT 84780

Shopping at these stores — even for pet supplies — helps keep them in business and supports the cruel puppy mill industry.

How You Can Help

Adopt, don’t shop. Choosing adoption saves lives and helps break the cycle of mass breeding.

Educate others. Share this information with friends, family, and neighbors so they understand the truth about where pet store puppies come from.

Support local rescues and shelters. Every adoption makes space for another dog in need.

At RMDR, our mission is not only to rescue dachshunds but also to educate our community. By refusing to support puppy mills, together we can move closer to a future where all dogs are treated with the compassion and respect they deserve.
