Let’s get started! There are homeless dachshunds and doxie-mixes in need of a foster home. Please fill out this form (below), and we’ll get in touch with you to discuss what is involved in being a foster at RMDR. We hope to talk to you soon!

Fosters may face challenges, but we have your back and get through them together. We work together to figure out what seems un-figure-out-able. You’re not alone at RMDR, we’re a community. If you have a question, many or our fosters and volunteers have experience with dachshunds, or maybe even grew up around them; we try to help each other out! We’re all here for the dogs.

A bed to go to in a quiet space, an -open- kennel with a bed and blanket in it, a quiet space to sleep or choose to get out of the fray of things.

The AKC, FDA and VCA agree that cigarette smoke can affect dogs. The dogs around tobacco smoking have a greater risk for health problems.

The Virtual Home Check is required. RMDR accepts dogs who have already likely been through some rough times, we want to place them not only in a loving, but safe environment. We need to review the setting the dog will be living in. For example a house with a yard, a condo with a small garden or gated dog park.
Have you ever been cited by animal control or the police for an animal related issue?

How did you hear about us?
Rocky Mountain Dachshund Rescue (RMDR) is a Utah based 501(c)(3) non-profit serving the Rocky Mountain region.
Have you used Slack?
Slack is the communication tool (available on iPhone, Android, Windows, and Mac) we use at Rocky Mountain Dachshund Rescue (RMDR). It allows our team of volunteers and fosters to stay connected, share updates, and coordinate care for the dogs in real time. We use Slack instead of email or text because it keeps everything organized in one place—whether it’s general updates, foster support, or adoption coordination.

Please note: Using Slack is required for all RMDR fosters and volunteers. There is no cost to you to use Slack, and RMDR will provide training if you haven’t used it before.
Are you currently involved with or fostering for another shelter/rescue organization?
"Available to start fostering?" means that you are currently able to take in and provide a temporary home for a dog(s) in need, where you would care for them until placed in a permanent home.

Key points about fostering:

Temporary care: Fostering is not about adopting, but providing a safe, supportive environment for a limited time until a more permanent solution can be found. RMDR does allow "foster fails". We are always trying to put the dogs needs first, sometimes the foster falls in love and adopts their foster. A happy outcome for everyone.

Variety of needs: Depending on the needs of RMDR dog, you might be able to foster a boned pair, a single dog or help with puppies, dogs with specific medical needs, or dachshunds requiring socialization training.

When you submit your application you will be directed to our Hold Harmless form. All of our fosters and volunteers are required to sign this.
