Surrender A Dog

Before You Begin

You will be asked to upload photos of your dog and any available medical records. If possible, please gather these files before starting the form. Uploading them during the application process helps us review your request more efficiently. If you do not have the records available now, we will request them when we contact you.

The information you provide helps us better understand your dog’s needs so we can do our best to assist both you and your dog.

Considering relinquishing a beloved dog is a difficult decision. Many circumstances can lead to this choice, and we are here to offer support. We appreciate you reaching out to us.

Life changes such as moving, the loss of a loved one, divorce, financial hardship, and health challenges can sometimes make rehoming a pet necessary. Whatever the reason, if you are still deciding or feeling uncertain about surrendering your dog, this resource may provide helpful information and alternatives to consider. Rest assured, we do not judge your situation; our goal is to assist you and your dog.

Rocky Mountain Dachshund Rescue (RMDR) places dogs in caring foster homes and ensures they receive appropriate veterinary care. When ready, each dog is carefully matched with a suitable forever family. While we strive to make the transition as smooth as possible, placement may take time due to foster availability and the number of dogs currently in our care. We prioritize finding the right placement for each dog while ensuring foster homes are able to meet the dog’s individual needs.

Please note: Submission of this surrender application does not guarantee acceptance into RMDR or immediate placement. Acceptance is based on factors such as available foster homes, the dog’s medical and behavioral needs, and the resources available to provide appropriate care.

RMDR is a 100% volunteer-run organization. Our volunteers balance rescue responsibilities alongside their personal and professional lives. While we do our best to respond as quickly as possible, most calls and messages are returned within 48 hours. We truly appreciate your patience and understanding.

After submitting this application, please watch for calls, texts, or emails from RMDR. If you receive a call or message from an unfamiliar number, it may be one of our intake volunteers attempting to reach you. Prompt responses help move the surrender process forward and allow us to better assist you and your dog.

If your dachshund is accepted into Rocky Mountain Dachshund Rescue, ownership and all rights to the dog will be transferred to RMDR so that all decisions regarding care, medical treatment, and placement can be made in the dog’s best interest. While the dog is in rescue, updates may be available from RMDR upon request; however, direct contact information for foster families or adoptive families will not be provided.

Please note: Once a dog has been surrendered to RMDR and physical ownership has been transferred, the surrender is permanent. The dog cannot be returned to the former owner, and all future placement decisions will be made solely by RMDR.

Thank you for your understanding and for helping us provide the best possible care for every dachshund entrusted to RMDR.
