Rescued dachshunds come from many situations. You might easily guess from an animal shelter, or when housing arrangements change–a new apartment, a divorce or death. There are many reasons doxies find their way to a rescue. For example, an elderly family member may not be able to care for their pet anymore, a puppy might be too much for someone, behavior issues may need to be worked on, or even when a dachshund is a senior or sick and needs some TLC. There are some harder to understand reasons like when a female doxie has been used by a breeder and they are done with them, with covid-dogs adopted during the pandemic and people going back to work the shelters have been saying they are full.

It’s important to understand as much of the dachshund’s story as possible. And we try our best to find out about their history so we can better understand their past environment.
